As stated in the
Semya, the Holy Book of Semuyism, the Ryudinian nation was founded by Zversky and his wife, Tochna. According to legend, Zversky and Tochna were both born as mortals to a small maritime community a few thousand years ago in the area of modern day Rodnatsia. They lived in the Arcane Era, a time where the Pagan Gods still walked among their followers, waging war in order to accumulate faith from believers. When one of these Pagan deities sent a messenger to the village, the village chief refused to submit to their rule. In a fit of anger, the deity sent its armies to raze the village, murdering the village leaders and driving the villagers into the sea. The villagers fled north across the water to Ryudinia, settling there and vowing revenge upon the deity whose name has been lost to time.
Time passed by and the man known as Zversky happened upon the ruins of a long-gone civilization known as the Korezhnui while exploring with his friend Tochna one day. Within these ruins, the two discovered weapons of unbelievable power. Driven by the desire for vengeance against the deity, Zversky and Tochna took two of the weapons and began planning their revenge. Years later, the two would launch an invasion of the continent in an effort to reclaim their homeland. Aided by the might of the mythical weapons Procheskitsa and Nyoshka, the forces of the deity were beaten back and eventually, revenge was enacted upon him. Zversky and Tochna continued to crusade upon the continent, slaying Gods and bringing more territory under the control of the Ryudinian people.
It is said that after uniting the Ryudinian islands as a single kingdom, the Holy Couple went on a journey to lands across the sea. It was there that they achieved divinity and ascended to Godhood, becoming the guardian deities of Ryudinia. Eventually the Arcane Era came to an end and the Gods began losing the ability to take physical form. In order to survive, they chose to ascend to a higher realm, no longer able to interact with their followers, but still able to shepherd them and protect them with their blessings. Zversky and Tochna continue to watch over Ryudinia, guiding its people through any trouble that comes their way.
The core beliefs of Semuyism are the equal importance of man and woman, making an offering to the Holy Couple at the start of every week, the divine ancestry of the Imperial Family, and the unity of the Ryudinian people. It is said that if one is diligent about making sacrifices in their lifetime, upon death they shall ascend to the realm of the gods. Those who do not pay the proper respect due to Zversky and Tochna will be reborn and will continue the cycle of life until they learn to appreciate the blessings of the Holy Couple.
History: Even today, scientists still puzzled how the islands of Ryudinia came to be inhabited, though many in the Empire believe the chronicles of the
Semya on the origins of the Ryudinian people. It is known however, that the islands have been inhabited for at least one thousand years. Over time, the Voronin dynasty came to power, claiming ancestry from the Holy Couple and ruled the islands for centuries. As naval technology improved, the Ryudinian nation expanded northeast, conquering and colonizing a large area on the Continent. Many tribal nations and kingdom were wiped out or integrated into society and for centuries, this has been considered a core part of the Empire.
As Ryudinia continued its exploits on the Continent, it began to run into serious resistance. After failing to defeat the Entokians, the Empire turned its eyes east towards the Celestinians. Although they put up a vicious fight due to their strong faith in their religion, they were eventually defeated and annexed into the Empire. For the next few centuries, Imperiya Ryudinia would continue to expand, crossing the seas to the west and conquering Lorvasa and [Dogon]. After these conquests, the Empire would maintain a relative peace, occasionally getting into religious clashes and crusading against the Continent.
Over the years, tensions in the region continued to grow. In 1915, Ryudinia found itself pulled into conflict, assisting its ally, Iridar against the forces of the [Triple Alliance]. Svebia and Dneprya had launched a dual offensive, with Rhenania joining in to settle and old grudge with Iridar. A large Ryudinian strike force was mobilized and sent to Iridar to assist against the encroaching nations. Although the Ryudinian entry into the war was initially met with success, the fighting soon devolved into trench warfare. With Svebia and Dneprya having the capability to send reinforcements by land, the war gradually shifted in favor of the [Triple Alliance]. Another major blow was struck when Rhenania launched a surprise attack through neutral Halvaken into the poorly defended Celestinia region. The war’s momentum would shift again when socialist revolution broke out in Dneprya. In order to combat the threat at home, Dneprya withdrew from the war. With both sides devastated by the war, a white peace came to pass.
The war would not end without consequences however. Svebia lost a large percentage of their population fighting in The Great War and a new government was formed in Iridar. Iridar was forced to cede territory to both Dneprya and Svebia. Dneprya was now controlled by socialist forces and civil unrest began to spread within the Empire of Ryudinia. In 1918, by decree of Emperor Serafim IV, the 5th Imperial Corps were sent westward to put down the civil unrest, however the arrival of the troops caused the unrest to evolve into insurgency. After several months of fighting, Serafim—a longtime reformer, shocked by the brutality of his own troops— ordered an immediate withdrawal and allowed the western regions with ethnically different populations, to leave the Empire. Serafim also saw the growing religious tensions in Celestinia and granted them their independence in exchange for leaving the Holy City of Rodnatsia in Ryudinian hands. During this time, communists in the north took advantage of the chaos caused by the uprisings in the west to peacefully secede and declare a communist Ryudinia. Although Ryudinia refused to recognize this new government as legitimate, the military was too worn out from fighting in the west to stop the secession.
Anger at the Emperor for allowing the Empire to fall apart quickly spread through the Imperial Army. This dissatisfaction soon found its way to the highest branches of the military. In a bid to stop the total disintegration of the Empire war hero and commander of the 5th Imperial Corps, General Vitaly Makisov led a military coup on the basis that the Emperor had gone mad, deposing Serafim and seizing power. Makisov had the main branch of the Imperial Family executed and placed distant member Fyodor on the throne as a figurehead emperor. Makisov’s coup was not able to tie up all loose ends, as Imperial Princess Sofiya Voronina and several members of the Imperial Guard managed to flee to Rhenania. It is now 1920 and even after two years, Makisov’s coup does not have the full support of the populace and only time will tell if he will be able to maintain his hold on power.
