Aeseria Ratifies Women's Suffrage
March 1920

AVALON; Mar. 15 - After being proposed to the Senate earlier this year, the constitutional amendment for full women's suffrage on the federal level was passed by a majority vote. President Hamilton's signature, written this morning, has placed the amendment into law.

This important legislation marks the next step on the path of universal equal rights, which started at the turn of the century. As Aeseria mobilized for the Great Emmerian Continental War, women were quickly given roles in critical industries such as manufacturing--industries traditionally occupied by men alone--as the men who previously ran the lines were drafted into the armed forces. After the war's conclusion, continued progression of civil rights has been a prominent issue.

This amendment comes just in time for the upcoming Presidential Election of 1920, which is merely seven months away. Critics of the amendment, particularly in the Aeserian Constitution Party, believe the amendment was purposefully stalled until months before the election in order to garner more votes for the Progressive Party, the current Senate majority. Most others, such as Geoffery Colburn of the Republican Federalist Party, approve of it, believing it was legislation that was long overdue.

Nonetheless, the ratification officially makes the Federal Republic one of universal suffrage, currently the only one in the world. It is expected to bolster the participation rates of future elections as women prepare to use their new rights to the fullest.

A messenger from the Lorvasa provides a statement:

"We are quite pleased to see such a measure pass. Sufferage brings our nations closer together culturally, as both of us recognize the contributions and rights of all citizens. While they may have ignored our civil equality as mandated by Sey Falis and her guiding Reformation, we can ensure Aeseria that such measures will only bring future prosperity, and will be happy to assist them."
